Born in Indore, Kalpana passed her M.A.in Music securing distinction and a gold medal from the Indore University.She had the dual honour of receiving gold medal in light classical and silver medal in light music in the prestigious A.I.R.competition in 1977.These have been followed by numerous awards and certificates of merit over the years including:-

Kalpana has mesmerised the audience in a large number of concerts organised by reputed music circles and organizations all over India.

As an ‘A’ grade artist of A.I.R. and Doordarshan, Kalpana regularly gives performances of both classical, light classical and light music on the radio and television.
